The Singapore Tourism Board (STB)
recently appointed five new members to its Board of Directors. The new members bring to the STB a wealth of knowledge and expertise in
diverse sectors, which include banking, telecommunications, law, real estate and technology, as well as strong business ties in the region.
The appointments of the new members will strengthen the depth and experience of the STB Board, to enable it to provide strategic direction and guidance to the STB
management, as the STB transforms the tourism sector into a key engine of economic growth for Singapore under the Tourism 2015 roadmap. Under Tourism 2015, the
STB aims to triple tourism receipts to S$30 billion and double visitor arrivals to 17 million by 2015, and thereby create some 100,000 new jobs for the tourism sector.
The five new members, whose two-year term came into effect on 30 June, 2005 are:
Mr. Frank Wong Kwong
Shing, Vice-Chairman of DBS Bank Ltd and Chairman of DBS Bank (Hong Kong) Limited. Mr. Wong has over 30 years of experience in the
banking industry. His knowledge of the China market will be invaluable for the tourism industry as the STB continues in its efforts to capture a larger pie of China's
outbound market.
Mr. Lucas Chow Wing
Keung, Executive Vice President of SingTel's Corporate Business Group. Mr Chow heads the unit which supports the regional and global data
communication needs of corporations worldwide. Mr. Chow joined SingTel in 1998 and brings extensive regional experience and networking opportunities to the
STB.
Mr. Philip Antony
Jeyaretnam, Senior Counsel and President of the Law Society of Singapore. A commercial litigator and international arbitration practitioner, Mr.
Jeyaretnam heads the construction law practice of the law firm of Rodyk & Davidson. He is also the Immediate Past Chairman of the Society of Construction Law. Mr.
Jeyaretnam's depth of legal experience will be a great asset to the STB Board.
Ms. Chong Siak
Ching, President and CEO of Ascendas Pte. Ltd.,
one of Asia's leading business space providers. Ms. Chong currently serves on the APEC Business Advisory
Council. Her knowledge of the regional real estate market will be invaluable as the STB embarks on more infrastructure projects in the coming years.
Mr. Scott
Blume, CEO of Zuji Pte. Ltd. Zuji, an online travel company, has offices in six countries across the Asia Pacific region, including Singapore. Prior to joining
Zuji, Mr. Blume was CEO and Executive Director of Australian-listed ITG Limited (formerly known as Internet Travel Group). Mr. Blumes extensive experience in the travel
industry will enable the STB to be better placed to seize new opportunities and develop initiatives relating to technology in the tourism industry.
