Airlines in association with nine leading resorts on the paradise
islands of the Maldives, has launched the SIA Maldives Holiday promotion in Singapore, Japan, Korea, China, Hong Kong,
Taiwan, Philippines and Australia, from now till 4 April 2005. Attractively priced package deals
include airfares, accommodation, meals and transfers.
The Maldives promotion is part of a recovery programme led by SIA in collaboration with the Maldives Tourism Promotion Board (MTPB) and partners to promote
tourism to the islands. In addition, SIA and its partners have also been actively leading travel agents and media from around the world to the Maldives to highlight first
hand the pristine condition of the islands and the resorts there.
"Many of resorts in the Maldives are more than ready to receive visitors, with full facilities and a complete suite of resort activities. They have been unscathed or suffer
minimal damage from the tsunamis," said SIA Executive Vice-President, Marketing and the Regions, Mr Huang Cheng Eng, "Together with our Maldivian partners, its
important for us to provide a united push to restore tourist confidence, to bring visitors back to the paradise islands."
Tourism contributes
around 33 per cent of the GDP in the Maldives, and the livelihood of the locals depend heavily on its recovery.
"While the Maldivians strive hard to bring back normalcy to
their everyday lives, they are more than eager to welcome international tourists in a bid to save the communities that exist within one of the world's most fragile yet
beautiful natural environments," said Ms Aminath Shihab, Assistant Director Marketing,
MTPB.
As part of the SIA Maldives Holiday promotion, customers checking-in to the renowned Banyan Tree Maldives Vabbinfaru or Angsana Maldives will receive specially
selected welcome gifts, a complimentary bottle of wine and fruit basket, and exclusive spa privileges.
Those staying with the Universal Resorts Group (Baros Maldives, Kurumba Maldives, Laguna Maldives and Full Moon Maldives) can also look forward to
discounts on food and beverage, and spa treatments, and free use of snorkelling and water-sport equipment at Biyadhoo Island and Villavaru Resorts.
