The Centre for Asia Pacific Aviation
has opened a new North American office in Vancouver, Canada. The office is headed by Laura Strand, former Airports Council
International (ACI) Pacific Regional Director.
The Centre’s Managing Director, Peter Harbison, said, “Vancouver has built a reputation as a leading aviation centre in the Pacific Rim. North
American aviation and tourism organisations are increasingly focusing on Asia for future growth opportunities. We believe the environment in Vancouver is highly
conducive to our efforts in gaining business across North America”.
Laura Strand, the Centre’s Regional Director, North America, stated ”I am looking forward to a new challenge with The Centre and introducing their range of consulting
and information services to the North American continent – a market that is reaching out to Asia for new business opportunities”.
“Understanding
Asia Pacific’s market characteristics and keeping ahead of rapid changes is crucial to success. This is a key strength of The Centre that is of value to
clients in North America”, said Ms Strand.
The Vancouver office will also support the Centre’s expanding conference activities. The Centre has organised several major aviation conferences, including a recent
high level four day event in January 2005, in Singapore, which was attended by 550 industry executives.
The Centre will next convene an Indian Subcontinent and Middle East Aviation and Tourism Investment Summit in Mumbai in May 2005. The Centre is also staging the
Japan & North Asia Low Cost Airline Symposium in Kitakyushu on 4-5 August 2005, just after the launch of All Nippon Airways’ proposed low cost subsidiary, Air Next.
Laura Strand has been working in the airport and aviation sector now for over 12 years. Specifically she has served as an independent consultant providing research
and expertise for various aviation clients, as the Director of the Pacific Regional Office for Airports Council International and in human resources and public relations
functions with the Vancouver International Airport Authority.
