Spa by Clarins is to open at the Kyoto Royal Hotel in Kyoto, Japan, on Friday, July 1,
2005. The first day spa in Kyoto,
the Kotoran Spa by Clarins is the result of a partnership between Ishin Hotels Group and
Clarins, a leading French skin care and beauty company. “The spa concept is to express all the seasonal elements of Kyoto from its food to its plants and flowers, the natural elements of Kyoto such as its mineral water, its
unique features such as its history, culture and architecture and its standing as a tourist-friendly destination,” said General
Manager, Mr Pitton. Located on the 10th floor of the hotel, the spa offers
panoramic views of Kyoto. The 652sqm spa features seven treatment rooms including single and double rooms, one with an en-suite
Jacuzzi, a spa consultation area, and separate female/male relaxation rooms. Other
unique features of the spa include: ancient meditation practices, incense by Kyoto’s long-established Matsuei-do, and the natural Kyoto mineral water Miyabi, or
beautiful water, taken from a fresh vein of flowing water under the hotel. Treatments are based on Kyoto’s unique and natural resources such as Uji’s green tea, Perilla leaf, Docdami, Sandalwood, Yuzu, Pine Needles, and Tansy.  Therapists have undergone intensive training at
Clarins to ensure the highest professional standards. For a total spa experience, the hotel offers four
Kotoran Suites located on the spa floor. These suites are reserved exclusively for spa guests who can enjoy in-room
treatments as well as specially-prepared spa cuisine from room service. The spa’s interior designs will display the historic town of
“Kyoto” and modern Japanese design with sleek lines, soft lighting, and translucent natural tones. Water
features, bamboo, stone, rice paper, Japanese stucco paint, luxurious fabrics and designer accessories will accentuate the relaxing ambiences. The interior concept was
designed by Asao Nakayama Wilson of W Design International. See
