Paramount Airways
placed its first Embraer 170 in commercial service this week. The Indian carrier took
delivery of this aircraft on September 16, 2005 in Brazil. In the same week, it successfully
completed an inaugural flight with the Embraer 170 from Coimbatore to Madurai, in
India.
The airline started daily passenger service Wednesday with this airplane linking Delhi with
Coimbatore and Cochin. The first customer for the E-Jets in India, Paramount
Airways signed an agreement to lease two Embraer 170s and three Embraer 175s. The Embraer
170 is the first of five deliveries that will be made to the Indian
startup airline over the course of the next 12 months.
Embraer has already received aircraft certification for both the Embraer
170 and Embraer 175 from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) in India.
“This first delivery to Paramount Airways, which is also the first customer for our E-Jets in
India, marks a key milestone for Embraer. It is a reflection of our growing
presence in the Indian aviation market,” said Bruce Peddle, Managing Director, Embraer Asia and Pacific.
“2005 has been a significant year for Embraer in this region. In addition to the Paramount
order, Indian startup airline Air One Feeder Airline Ltd will be the first carrier in India to
operate the 50-seat Embraer regional jet ERJ 145 later this year.”
