Tiger Airways,
a low cost airline based in Singapore, is slashing its fares to
encourage travelers to fly to the island of Phuket in southern Thailand.
While some renovation work,
following the Tsunami, is currently underway along the Patong beachfront,
most of the island’s hotels, restaurants, tourist attractions and entertainment outlets remain operational.
“Traveling to Phuket with Tiger Airways’ special fares will be a fantastic way for Singaporeans to help Phuket. If tourists do not return to the island, the shops will close
down and people will lose their jobs. It poses a longer term problem to the economic recovery of Phuket,” said Khun Eumporn Jiragalwisul, Director of Tourism
Authority of Thailand (Singapore). “The Thai people warmly invite all travelers to come to our beautiful island of Phuket to help rebuild our livelihood.”
Khun Emporn said,” In addition to the low air fares by Tiger Airways, we are working with the Phuket Tourist Business Association to offer special room rates to help
bring travelers back.”
Tiger Airways will be offering a massive 20,000 low fare seats to Phuket from Singapore for travel by April 2005 at the low fare of just $9.98 (one way). The seats will go on
sale from 21 January to 6 February 2005. Special room rates at participating hotels are
also available for Tiger Airways passengers, valid up to 30 April 2005.
“Tiger Airways will continue to fly to Phuket to show support for the Thai people, especially those in Phuket who depend on tourism for their livelihood. Tiger Airways
has a long term business view of Phuket and is confident that Phuket will be back on its feet soon. Barring any drastic or unforeseen circumstances, our flight schedule
will continue to help bring passenger traffic to fill empty hotels, restaurants and shops that provide much needed jobs for the people in Phuket,” says Tony Davis, Chief
Executive Officer of Tiger Airways.
