Passenger numbers at Dragonair rose 13.2% while cargo volumes climbed 23.9% in April
2005 compared with the same month in 2004.
The airline flew 431,860 passengers last month, 50,274 more than one year ago, and 7.3% up on March.
“April is a busy month for trade shows and meetings in the China Mainland, driving business traffic from Hong Kong to Beijing and Shanghai in particular,” said
Dragonair CEO Stanley Hui.
“Leisure travel was also robust, with growth in both the individual and group segments during the month.”
Cago shipments increased strongly as well in April compared with last year, but were flat month-on-month.
“It was still a strong month in terms of cargo, with 33,533 tonnes carried,” Mr. Hui noted. “New York was added to our freighter network at the beginning of April.
Shipments eastbound performed extremely well. We will continue to work hard in the months ahead at promoting the advantages that Dragonair offers shippers on the
east coast of the US in terms of access to the Mainland market and Asia through our Hong Kong hub.”
