Macau Fisherman’s Wharf
is to celebrate its Soft Opening on 31 December 2005. After 5 years of hard work, the new
prominent destination combines entertainment, retail, food, hotel, marina and convention facilities
all in one place.
Macau Fisherman’s Wharf has been developed based on the prime aim
to support and advocate the Macau SAR Government’s strategic focus, which is to further develop Macau tourism and convention industries, with the
collaboration of the gaming businesses.
The facilities and services of Macau Fisherman’s Wharf will continuously be enhanced. Part of the leasing spaces has been reserved
by small and medium sized companies in Macau, in particular to facilitate the development of the retail industry of Macau as well as to cope with the 2nd
phase extension project of Macau Fisherman’s Wharf.
The Soft Opening Lights-up Ceremony will start at 6:00pm on 31 December 2005. The Chief Executive of Macau SAR Government, Mr Edmund Ho, Director of the Liaison
Office of the Central People’s Government in the Macau Special Administrative Region, Mr. Bai Zhijian and the Vice President of National Tourism Administration of the
People’s Republic of China, Mr. San Gang will be the Guests of Honor to officiate at the ceremony. To celebrate the soft opening
the main featured show “Opening Show: CHICAGO in Concert” will be staged at the Roman Amphitheatre, which is the main outdoor performance venue of Macau Fisherman’s
Wharf.
Apart from the highlights on the main stage, there will be a
variety of exciting entertaining programs around various locations within Macau Fisherman’s Wharf,
including “Hit Rock Street Percussion”, “Taiko Rolling Thunder Show”, “Dancing in the Tang”, “Classy Jazzy Cozy Night” and
“Glamorize Fashion Show”, all together to fascinate visitors at their first tour to Macau Fisherman’s Wharf.
To celebrate the advent of the new year, two special programs namely “Joyous Countdown Party”
and “Gala Countdown to New Year 2006” have been scheduled to light up the evening. The latter will be staged at the Roman Amphitheatre, the Secretary for Social
Affairs and Culture of Macau SAR Government, Mr. Fernando Chui Sai On will be present to share the happy moments with the public. The “Gala Countdown to New
Year 2006” program mainly features “The Elegant Variation: Frances Yip in Concert” and the “Danza del Fuego Acrobatics Performance”, a British professional team
featuring circus stunt tricks with fireworks special effects on stage. Last but not the least, a splendid firework show will be staged at around midnight to greet the New
Year.
Besides the
programs mentioned above, there are also snack counters available to serve
a wide variety of food to visitors.
Moreover, the 2 indoor rides within the 40-meter man-made volcano as well as the 4 kiddy rides at the Aladdin’s Fort will also start operating on New Year’s Eve.
Their hours of operation on that day will be from 7:30pm to 10:30pm.
On 31 December 2005, the public is
welcome after 7:30pm, with no admission fee and soft opening souvenirs available for all guests. Due to security
reasons, there will not be parking facilities within Macau Fisherman’s Wharf on that day and therefore the public is advised to make use of nearby public parking facilities
or make use of public transportation.
The Soft Opening celebrations carry on to the New Year Day (1st January 2006). Macau Fisherman’s Wharf has invited the international renowned violin player Vanessa
Mae to perform at the “Vanessa Mae In Concert & New Year 2006 Gala Dance Dinner” at the Convention & Exhibition Centre of Macau Fisherman’s
Wharf.
The first ever themed entertainment attraction in the tourism industry of Macau, Macau Fisherman’s Wharf is centrally located at Macau’s outer harbour, 5-minute walk
from the Macau Ferry Terminal and Heliport. The total investment of the project is anticipated to reach
HK$1.9 billion. The project occupies an area of over 93,000m2, combining entertainment, retail, food, hotel, marina, convention and exhibition facilities in one place.
The operation hours of all the rides are from 10am to 9pm everyday and tickets are available at the ticketing booths.
