Air France
is switching to electronic ticketing (e-ticketing) in all Asia Pacific markets where travel facilitator Abacus International provides the service.
E-ticketing is a real-time method for airlines and travel agents to issue tickets. Individual ticket information is stored within the airline’s reservation system and can be
retrieved electronically.
Abacus travel agents in e-ticketing enabled markets, which include Thailand, Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Taiwan, the Philippines, Korea, Australian and
New Zealand, will now be able to issue e-tickets exclusively for Air France.
Mr Jean-Louis Pinson, Asia Pacific Executive Vice President
and Managing Director, Air France, said, “This initiative will enable Abacus travel agents to provide a more
efficient and cost-effective service to our customers. Air France travellers no longer have to worry about losing valuable flight coupons and their tickets can be
downloaded securely from any Internet-connected PC by entering their personalised reference number.
“It also improves our business processes by enabling real-time access to the latest passenger information and reservation updates,” Mr
Pinson added.
In April 2005 more than 21 per cent of all tickets issued on the Abacus system
were electronic, which was up 105 per cent over the previous year, with close to 1.4 million e-tickets issued.
