Asia
Pacific travel continues to grow as it enters the second half of the year, according to the latest booking figures issued today by
travel facilitator Abacus International.
In July, total bookings on the Abacus system increased by 9% over the corresponding period in 2004 to more than 3.92 million. Intra-Asia travel accounted for the
vast majority of bookings made at more than 84%.
Abacus President and CEO Don
Birch said, “Overall, we are continuing to see steady growth in Intra-Asia travel with bookings for July posting a 9% increase over the
corresponding period in 2004. Clearly, the oil price increases had a limited impact on travel demand and we expect to see continued growth in the second half of the
year.”
E-ticketing
Electronic ticketing
on the Abacus system for the month of July increased by 67% over the same period last year, with the Philippines and Malaysia recording the highest growth rates at
1,265% and 286% respectively. Year-to-date 2005, 2.58 million e-tickets have been issued, an 85% increase over
the same period in 2004.
