El Gouna
resort is to open the first Angsana Spa on the Red Sea. The spa is
expected to to open at
the Mövenpick El Gouna Hotel beginning August 2005. The new Angsana spa is conceptualised, developed and will be managed by
Banyan Tree Spa.
Stretching over 500 sq metres, the Angsana Spa will offer 12 treatment rooms including six double treatment rooms, one shower room, two single treatment rooms, two
deluxe spa treatment rooms and a manicure and pedicure room.
Signature treatments include Nerfertiti’s Ritual (US$125), named after Queen Nerfertiti, whose era introduced indulgence and body pampering to Egypt. This 180 minute
treatment includes 90 minutes of wave massage followed by a 40 minute Lulur treatment, where turmeric paste is mixed with aromatic floral essence and used to
exfoliate the skin and concludes with a 10 minute cooling yoghurt splash.
Massages include Desert Sand (US$60/90 mins), where muscle tension is eased with a combination of strokes and light percussion with a sand-filled linen pouch dipped
in warm oil and applied to each part of the body consecutively. Alternatively guests can opt for the Ibu’s secret massage (US$60/90 mins), a deep tissue massage
adapted from traditional Balinese techniques where the therapist uses thumb and palm pressure to soothe aching muscles and relieve tension or the signature Angsana
massage (US$80/120 mins).
Launched in 2000, Angsana Spa embraces the contemporary, holistic and non-clinical tropical garden concept. Drawing on expertise from Banyan Tree Spa, Angsana
Spa’s refreshing blend of treatments places special emphasis on the use of natural ingredients such as native flowers, fruits, herbs, spices and plants. Employing
aromatherapy and the therapeutic sense of touch, Angsana Spa uses a fusion of techniques from the East to the West to refresh and rejuvenate the body, mind and
spirit.
