Qantas began flying to Singapore 70 years ago, when a four-engine DH86 biplane made the first Qantas overseas flight in February 1935 from Brisbane and Darwin to
Singapore, and regular passenger flights began in April 1935. Since then, Singapore has grown to be an important hub for Qantas flights linking Australian cities with all
parts of Asia. Today, Qantas has direct services between Singapore and seven Australian cities as well as service from Australia to 13 other Asian cities. In addition,
Qantas operates 17 flights per week to London and seven per week to Frankfurt.
To celebrate the significant milestone of Qantas’s 70th anniversary, the airline is offering special deals
from Singapore to popular Australian destinations. For a six-day period beginning
14 April 2005, fares to Australian cities start from S$270 to Perth. Tickets to Adelaide, Brisbane, Cairns, Darwin, Melbourne or Sydney start from just
S$470.
Leisure travelers can also take a short break to Australia’s capital Canberra, Queenland’s Gold Coast, and Tasmania priced from just
S$570. Additional cities start from S$70.
Tickets to Auckland, Christchurch and
Wellington are priced from just S$670.
Mr Stephen Limbrick, Regional General Manager South East Asia for Qantas said,” We have introduced these special fares to popular destinations as our way of
thanking the Singapore community for their support over the last 70 years. With travel becoming more commonplace, we aim to invite Singaporeans to experience a
taste of Australian living.”
For those looking for a short getaway closer to home, tickets for two to Bali on Australian Airlines starts from
S$170.
