Korean Air is
to operate flights between Seoul, Korean and Huangshan, China, from
tomorrow, 14 October 2005. The airline will operate six charter flights in October using a 149 seat capacity B737-700.
Mt. Huangshan is a UNESCO World Heritage site and is one of China’s most scenic areas known for natural beauty and culture. Its airport, Tunxi airport, located in Anhui
province, was previously used for domestic flights only but was recently opened to Korean Air as a result of the airline’s efforts to accommodate the increasing number
of travelers seeking to visit the scenic destination.
Flights will depart Incheon International Airport Fridays and Sundays at 3:10 p.m. and arrive at Tunxi Airport at 4:30 p.m. local time. Flights will depart Tunxi Airport at
5:40 p.m. and arrive at Incheon Int’l Airport at 8:55 p.m. Flying time is approximately 2 hours 20 minutes.
Korean Air has been encouraging visits to Huangshan since last year as part of its efforts to promote travel to Shanghai, only an hour flight or five-hour drive from
Huangshan. With Korean Air’s local television advertising, the number of Korean travelers to the Huangshan has increased from 700 a month to 6,000 each month.
Korean Air
said it will evaluate the charter flight operations to determine the feasibility of regular flight operations to the city.
