In addition to undertaking refurbishment work required following the tsunami of December 26th 2004, Six Senses Resorts & Spas
is taking the opportunity to further enhance the Soneva Gili Resort in the
Maldives, to ensure that it continues to provide one of the most unique
resort experiences in the Maldives.
The decision to postpone the opening was made after a thorough review of the physical condition of the property, and despite the mainly superficial damage to
structures and loss of some furnishings, it was deemed that the resort could not be compromised, and must be able to offer the highest standards of service and
facilities expected by Soneva guests.
Paramount to the scope of the restoration and development work, is environmental
impact, with work moving at a pace that provides little negative impact on the marine
and eco-systems.

During this time, Soneva Gili Resort & Six Senses Spa will also complete the Private Reserve, which at 1400sqm is
one of the largest over-water Presidential Suites in the world, plus an over-water wedding pavilion, offering amazing ocean vistas of both Sunrise and Sunset.
“We are confident that by May 1st 2005 we can assure guests that they will enjoy the fullest Soneva standards at Soneva Gili Resort & Six Senses Spa,” said Chief Sales
Officer James Sullivan-Tailyour, “therefore, at this time, we will not take any bookings with arrival dates prior to May 1st 2005”.
Soneva Gili’s sister resort, the flagship Soneva Fushi Resort & Six Senses Spa, located in the North Baa Atoll - which is a 25-minute seaplane flight from Male - has
completed the minor refurbishments following the tsunami and is 100% operational.
