Melatonin
is well known among frequent travellers, especially those that travel
long distances. It is also used by people with mild sleep
disorders, or for travellers suffering from jet lag. Melatonin is
actually a natural hormone produced by the pineal gland in our brains,
and helps us know when it is time to sleep and when to awake.
Many
travellers take a Melatonin pills to help control this sleep cycle while
they are travelling. There are two types of Melatonin, natural which is
produced from pineal glands in animals, and synthetic, which is entirely
man made, doctors generally strongly recommend the synthetic variety so
do ensure which is which, when you purchase any Melatonin.
As
we are not doctors, we strongly recommend consulting a doctor before
taking Melatonin. It is also very
important to note that some countries have very strict regulations on
what medications are allowed to be carried into their countries, so do
make sure you check whether the country you are travelling to allows you
to carry Melatonin, and what documents may be required. This includes
countries you may only be transiting in.
