Meridien Khao Lak Beach Resort & Spa soft opened 1st June 2004 and celebrated its grand opening 13 November 2004. For
news on the devastating Tsunami disaster which hit Khao Lak very hard,
        please see our Latest
        Travel News section. Thanks
to a creative management team, this sophisticated and luxurious five star resort offers
guests a world of choice to help them relax and enjoy their time in
paradise. These creative ideas range from complimentary non-motorised
watersports, a vibrant kids club open from 7am to 9pm available for
children aged between 3 and 12, an adult only swimming pool (one of three available at the resort), private pool villa do-it-yourself and
chef prepared barbecues, and the most novel idea of all, the ability to enjoy the breakfast
        buffet until 2pm. The
resort offers 243 bedrooms, suites and villas and is located on an
unspoiled pristine and very quiet beach, Pakweeb, in the Khao Lak area.
All the rooms are luxuriously furnished and all offer either a
garden/pool view, or a beach/ocean view. For sheer indulgence guests can choose between a
Lagoon Villa, Pool Villa, and the resorts most prized beach front pool villas. The Lagoon
Villas all have a small garden and look out over the Lagoon. The private beach front pool villas
which only differ from the pool villas because the latter are enclosed
rather than opening out onto the beach, are quite simply
breathtaking, and offer a bathroom you won't want to leave, a bed large
enough to get lost in, your own private swimming pool, jacuzzi and even
a sala all inches from the beach. The enormous marble
bathroom in the villas comprises of an oversized bathtub, a
separate toilet, a separate indoor shower, a separate outdoor rain
shower, two wash basins and towels so large you will quickly begin to
believe you are losing weight! The
tranquility the resort offers through its immaculate gardens and character
is enhanced by the fact that no motorised water sports are allowed,
permitting guests to truly relax and enjoy their holiday. For
restaurants the hotel offers guests Cafe Lilawadee which features
buffets and an a la carte menu, and the Bangsak Grill which is located
adjacent to the pool and offers a stylish show kitchen open plan design
where guests can enjoy pasta's, pizzas and barbecued meats and fish. After
the hotels Grand Opening the hotel will boast a new bar - R&B -
        which
will offer guests live music by an American band and drinks at regular
        Thailand bar prices rather
than the traditional and often expensive hotel prices. This new bar is
being aimed at hotel guests looking for quality entertainment and also
to locals and other visitors to Khao Lak, who currently have very few
five star evening entertainment options. The R&B
entertainment complex will comprise of a fine dining restaurant
overlooking a lake, a modern sports style bar, and the band area. This
eagerly anticipated bar is expected to open 1 December 2004. Another
addition to the hotels selection of restaurants will be the
opening of the Bamboo Bar, located on the beach. This bar/restaurant
will offer an ideal location to enjoy snacks through the day and later watch
the sunset while enjoying a refreshing cocktail or two. In the evening
the Bamboo Bar will be transformed into a Seafood Restaurant serving
fresh seafood available for barbecue. A Thai restaurant, Baan Thai, will also open in November and will be available in the
evening for dinner, while in the morning the restaurant will double up
as an alternative breakfast venue exclusively for villa guests, who already have the option of continental breakfast through
room service or using the main breakfast buffet in the Cafe Lilawadee
        restaurant.  According
to General Manager, Mr Jean-Louis Ripoche the resort is an idyllic haven
of peace and tranquility year round but did suggest that the ultimate
time to visit is in February and March. That said high season for the
resort, when the weather is, or at least should be at its best, is from
the beginning of November to end April. Mr
Ripoche, commented, "We are not really looking for clientele from
Phuket who enjoy the bars, and commercial aspect Phuket offers, rather
we are looking for those clients who are looking for a relaxing
atmosphere, in a true beach front resort, which you can't find in Phuket." "Within
the next 10 years Khao Lak will be the resort area of choice for discerning
Phuket residents and international travellers." he added.  It
might not take that long, located
just one hour from Phuket International Airport, Khao Lak
offers travellers a touch of undeveloped paradise, beautiful beaches and the Le Meridien
Khao Lak Beach Resort & Spa allows you to enjoy all this in one of the
most luxurious properties in Asia. See
