Ho
Chi Minh, in some ways may not be what you expect of Vietnam.
It is a very modern city, in many ways as a lot of it was
destroyed during the war. Now there are new multi story buildings
housing offices, serviced appartments, and hotels in Saigon,
mixed in with some of the smaller Chinese style shop houses.
It is more compact than Hanoi, and again choosing a hotel
by location is not really a concern. It has much more of a
night life than Hanoi, with bars and discos scattered all
over the city.
Caravelle
Hotel - - Great
location, probably the best in Ho Chi Minh, as this hotel
is practically on top of everything, and just opposite the
Opera house. They have a lovely bar on the 10 floor, which
offers lovely views while listening to a live band. The hotel
only opened 1998 so everything is new, and in good condition.
The rooms are bright, with all amenities that you would expect. The
Caravelle Hotel won a Premier Travel Award for Excellence
in 1999 and also continued its success in 2000. See
pictures of this award wining luxury hotel with special rates
and online reservations.
Equatorial
- - A
Beautiful hotel well appointed and sized rooms, and a great
swimming pool. This hotel has some very special deals. A good choice. Special
rates pictures and online reservations.
Hotel
Sofitel Saigon - -
One of the latest additions to
the hotel scene this hotel is very well appointed, and is
everything that you would expect from a 5 star hotel. See
pictures of this hotel with special hotel rates and online
reservations.
Omni
Saigon - - This
is a majestic hotel, and is managed by Marco Polo Hotels.
Beautiful property that serves an excellent lunch buffet.
Its' downside however is the location, this is the second
closest hotel to the airport, and because of that unless you
have business in the near vicinity you would be much better
off, downtown. Although even in rush hour it will never take
more than thirty minutes to travel downtown by taxi. See
pictures of this hotel and special rates.
The
Renaisssance Riverside Saigon Hotel - - The
most recently opened hotel in Saigon. Offering guests views
over the Saigon river. The rooms are very well appointed,
and with three excellent quality restaurants/lounges, an excellent
gymnasium, and a swimming pool commanding excellent views
from the 22nd floor, what more could you need for a successful
business trip or enjoyable holiday. 1999 and 2000 Premier
Travel Award Winner for Excellence. See

New
World Saigon - -
This is presently the biggest
hotel in HCM, and serves many dignitaries on their visits.
It has one of the best executive floors in Asia and serves
around four food presentations a day there. The rooms are
nothing extraordinary, but just what you would expect from
a 5 star hotel.
Novotel
Garden Plaza - -
Another new property. This hotel
is the closest to the airport about 5 minutes from the Omni
above, and because of this does offer some very special rates.
Again though if you do not have to be in that vicinity then
you are much better off downtown at one of the other properties. See
pictures, special rates and online reservations.

Saigon
Prince - - This
hotel is part of Duxton hotels and is very popular for some
reason with the Japanese clientele. They do have a Japanese
restaurant, but it may have more to do with the very extensive
and professional massage centre that they have. All above
board (I believe), the girls pummel away, with acute expertise.
Great little boutique hotel.
The
Majestic - - You
will be relieved to know that this, as its name suggests is
not a new property. It is a beautiful majestic hotel. The
food and beverage outlets are reasonable, the pool is relatively
small, and you will have to move around it to follow the sun,
the gym is adequate (for me-one dumbbell normally leaves me
exhausted !) but the rooms are great. This is a hotel that
has character, true it is not the Raffles of Singapore, nor
does it have the same level of service, but it is a hotel
that can take you back in time. The rooms are large, and some
of the suites, have Jacuzzi and separate shower. This is a
great hotel if you want to know that you have been in HCM
rather than collect points from a chain frequent guest
programme.
