SINGAPORE AIRLINES AND AUSTRALIAN
TOURIST COMMISSION LAUNCH
“THE
GREAT AUSSIE STRIKE IT LUCKY PROMOTION”
Singapore
Airlines (SIA) and the Australian Tourist Commission (ATC) announced
today the launch of “The
Great Aussie Strike It Lucky Promotion”. The promotion, designed in
the style of a lucky-draw, is aimed at boosting
visitor arrivals to Australia.
The
promotion is one of the activities jointly organized by SIA and ATC
following the October 1999 signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU)
in which the two parties committed to promote Australia as a premier
international tourist destination throughout Asia, Europe and Africa.
The
contest, which is open to all visitors travelling to Australia on SIA
services, will run for a 100-day period from 14 January 2002 to 23
April 2002. Participants
will stand a chance to win a pair of economy class return tickets from
any SIA destination to any one of the five SIA Australian destinations
at the daily draws.
At the end of the
promotion, all entries will be snowballed for the Grand Draw, for the
top two prizes of a pair of First or Raffles Class return tickets from
any SIA destination to any one of the five SIA Australian
destinations. The first and second prizes also come with five
nights’ accommodation in a five-star hotel, and cash prizes of
US$5,000 and US$3,000 respectively.
The
promotion’s entry forms will be distributed upon departure from
Singapore and passengers will have to return the completed forms to
the cabin crew onboard before disembarkation in Australia. SIA has
more than 60 non-stop scheduled services each week to Adelaide,
Brisbane, Melbourne, Perth, and Sydney.
Said
Mr Huang Cheng Eng, SIA’s Executive Vice President Marketing and the
Regions, "In
the 12 months running up to November 2001, our passenger traffic to
Australia has grown by 9%, with the majority of it being tourist
traffic.”
“Our
relationship with Australia's tourism industry goes back for more than
thirty years. It is clearly one of our most important markets, and is
perceived as a desirable destination in these times. We look forward
to a continued role as a significant contributor
to the growth of Australian tourism in the years to come," said
Mr Huang.
Australian
Tourist Commission’s Executive General Manager, Eastern Hemisphere,
Mr Richard Beere, said the promotion was the largest single activity
to be undertaken with Singapore Airlines in Asia since the signing of
the MOU in 1999 and could not have come at a better time.
“The
importance of Asia as a tourism market for Australia continues to
grow,” he said. “Today this market represents around 30 per cent
of all international visitors to Australia and is expected to grow to
around 40 per cent by 2010,” he said.
“Australia
continues to be a popular tourist destination for visitors from the
Asia region with a wide range of destinations, activities and short
break getaways as well as self drive and multi city holidays. This
diversity coupled with the friendly and welcoming people and great
value makes Australia a very appealing holiday destination.”

ATC looks forward to continuing to work with Singapore Airlines to
further build inbound tourism to Australia.”
The
SIA's Group network, including services operated by SIA's regional
airline subsidiary, SilkAir, extends to 91 destinations in 40
countries.
The
Australian Tourist Commission
is a Commonwealth Statutory Authority with the charter to promote
Australia as a tourist destination in over 40 countries.
