ENTRANCE TO
SHINDAGHA HERITAGE SITES IS FREE
In a strategic,
premeditated move planned projected to create increased awareness of
the UAE’s heritage and culture, the Dubai Department of Tourism and
Commerce Marketing (DTCM) announced that entrance to all heritage
sites in Shindagha would be free for the public.
“There will be
no entrance charge levied during the month long DSF to facilitate
visitors to the sites and this will in turn ensure a more widespread
audience as we go about the task of promoting the country’s culture
without taxing the visitors pockets,” said DTCM Director Operations
and Marketing, Mohammed Khamis bin Hareb.
He noted that
this special ‘all value - no money’ promotion had secured
large crowds to the Shindagha heritage sites that have averaged more
than 30,000 visitors during DSF 2001.
The
heritage sites in Shindagha comprise genuinely restored and fully
equipped structures representing traditional life in the UAE. The
purpose of the sites is to safeguard the culture and architectural
heritage of Dubai to ensure present and future generations have an
opportunity to celebrate their heritage.
The
Heritage and Diving Village along with Sheikh Saeed Al Maktoum House
and Dubai Museum are the focal point of activity for many cultural
celebrations. “Shindagha
heritage sites offer visitors a fragment of history exclusive of the
hustle and bustle associated with the metropolis,” remarked Mr. bin
Hareb.
Visitors
get an opportunity to experience activities of yesteryears through
demonstrations by costumed and trained performers and travel back in
time to discover the treasures of Dubai’s heritage. The sights,
sounds and atmosphere are straight out of a book of history and each
event and activity is recreated live alongside historical exhibits,
hundreds of artifacts and illustrative activities.
“Art,
heritage and culture are rated by travelers worldwide among one of
their top five reasons for traveling and it is only natural for a
visitor to enjoy the exploration of a destinations’ unique identity
derived from its history,” said Mr. bin Hareb.
Designed
as a first class tourist attraction, and a year round education
facility, the Heritage and Diving Village is open daily through the
month long festival from 4.00 PM to midnight on weekdays and from 8.00
AM to 11.00 AM and 4.00 PM to midnight on Fridays.
“It
comes as a big surprise for most first-time visitors when they
discover that there is no entrance fee to the Shindagha heritage
sites.
He
noted that this special ‘all value - no money’ promotion was
planned by the DTCM to attract larger crowds to the Shindagha area,
which has been averaging over 30,000 visitors a day.

The
Heritage and Diving Village along with Sheikh Saeed Al Maktoum House
and the Arabian Bedouin Life encampment are the focal point of DSF
2001. “It is the
destination of tourists in search of a historical attraction minus the
hustle and bustle associated with the city,” said Mr. bin Hareb.
Visitors

demonstrations by costumed and trained performers. “The Shindagha
heritage sites offer the visitor an opportunity to travel back in time
discover the treasures of Dubai’s heritage. The sights, sounds and
atmosphere are straight out of a sepia tone print from the past and
each event and activity is recreated live alongside historical
exhibits, hundreds of artifacts and lively illustrative activities.
With
the scenic Dubai Creek promenade as a backdrop, the Shindagha heritage
sites beckon individuals who wish to savor a truly unique Arabian
experience.
Stroll
down Heritage Village and let the aroma of khameer - freshly
baked Arabic bread lead you to the earthen clay oven. Ride a camel on
sand to journey through a bygone era. Relish the delicious taste and
aroma of a sumptuous Arabic dinner served in the elegant Kan Zaman
Cafe. Time is on your side as you explore the past, because at the
Shindagha heritage sites, the activities go on well past midnight.

“A
living village.... a working farm with oxen, costumed interpreters,
art and crafts exhibitions, traditional Arabian hospitality, music,
games, holiday celebrations.... all this awaits the visitor at the
Shindagha - can you get more value in a promotion for free?” Mr. bin
Hareb concluded.
