THAI
Opens Town Office in Chengdu, People’s Republic of China
Mr.
Virabongsa Ramangkura, Chairman, Thai Airways International Public
Company Limited, together with representatives from travel agents,
guests and members of the press traveled on board THAI’s official
inaugural flight to Chengdu, the People’s Republic of China. Mr.
Virabongsa Ramangkura also chaired an official opening of THAI’s
office in Chengdu. Present as honoured guests were H.E. Mr. Don
Pramudwinai, the Thai Ambassador to the People’s Republic of China
and the Governor of Sichuan Province.
Mr.
Virabongsa Ramangkura, THAI’s Chairman, said, “THAI has launched
its first flight to Chengdu on 2 January 2002, and we are very pleased
that many tourists, both Thai and international, have shown immense
interest in travel to Chengdu. Chengdu is THAI’s newest destination,
and we believe that it will further strengthening the Asian segment of
THAI’s global network. In addition, it aims to expand travel and
tourism industry for both Thailand and China. By inaugurating this
service from Bangkok to Chengdu, THAI successfully opens up additional
avenues of air transportation to passengers seeking the services of a
leading air carrier, such as THAI to and from Chengdu.”
He also added that, “I am certain that this new THAI office
will further enhance the existing good relations that we have with the
airline industry in the People’s Republic of China”.
Chengdu,
being the capital of Sichuan Province in the People’s Republic of
China has become increasingly popular among overseas visitors as it is
a gateway to Tibet and houses a range of interesting sites and
attractions, as well as the home of the Giant Pandas and other
endangered animals species.
THAI’s
office is located in the lobby of Sichuan Hotel, which is situated in
the heart of the city centre of Chengdu. Conveniently located, the
office is near Dufu’s Thatched Cottage and Temple of Marquis Wu and
18 kilometres to Shuang Liu International Airport and a short distance

THAI
has operated on the route Bangkok-Chengdu v.v., on TG618 and TG619,
utilizing Airbus 300-600 aircraft, capable of accommodating 247
passengers: with 46 business class and 201 economy class seats. THAI
is operating 3 weekly flights to Chengdu every Wednesday, Friday and
Sunday.
On
this occasion, an Opening Ceremony of the Thai Food Festival was held
at the Crown Plaza Chengdu between 26 January – 6 February. The Thai
Food Festival is organized and hosted by THAI and the Crown Plaza
Chengdu.
