Revitalised
Skywards Website Launched
Skywards has just launched its
revitalised website in a blaze of colour and graphics, designed to
give members an exciting, interactive online service packed with
personalised features, news and special offers for their Skywards
Miles.

focuses on the individual Skywards member, tailoring the programme’s
latest news and special offers to the person’s preferences in travel
and interests.
Skywards, together with
Emirates’ Corporate Communications' Advertising and Internet
departments, worked closely with the Singapore-based company, Ion
Global, from last summer, on developing the new site. Emirates’ IT
division, Mercator, provided the back-end programming. The site is
built on Microsoft Commerce Server 2000 and offers key business
advantages, including advanced personalisation and business analysis,
as well as enhancements to performance which are aimed at
delivering a fast and reliable service to our Skywards members.
“We are very pleased with
the new design of skywards.com which has enlivened the site’s whole
look and feel, functionality and navigation,” said Andy Patton,
Skywards’ Marketing and Product Development Manager. “We set
ourselves the target of delivering the best frequent flyer site
available and believe we have achieved that objective.
“With its strong, new
personalisation engine, relevant news and offers will be driven to a
member the moment they visit the site.”
Skywards, the frequent flyer
programme of Emirates and SriLankan Airlines, was launched in May 2000
and, in its first 18 months, encouraged the airlines’ most frequent
customers to join, with attractive offers and those of the programme’s
prestigious partners in the airline, hotel, retail and financial
services industries.
“With 300,000 members in
over 200 countries, we are focusing our efforts on bringing members
the core benefits of the programme which are free travel and
other valuable rewards, enhanced service and recognition,” said Mr
Patton.
“Our many members spent
the first period of their membership building up Skywards Miles and
are now in the position to benefit from them, so we felt it was the
right time to unveil the new website, giving them a fun, interactive
and more personalised service.
“With our members located
all across Emirates’ and SriLankan’s network, the new website is a
cost-effective way of communicating relevantly and in a timely fashion
with our members,” added Mr Patton. “We also believe that by
engaging our customers online, we will lay a strong platform for
maximising our returns from e-commerce, an area of business that is
increasingly important to many companies in the travel industry.”
The new and enhanced
features of skywards.com in
addition to displaying aspirational imagery of places to go with
Skywards Miles, members can click on the homepage feature “What can
I do today with my Skywards Miles?” and can see their reward
possibilities at a glance.
Earning and redemption
tables have been replaced with interactive world maps that can
instantly calculate Skywards Miles. If a member is taking a trip to
Paris, a couple of clicks of the mouse will calculate the number of
Miles to be earned. If they want to take a holiday to the Maldives, a
few more clicks will show how many Miles are needed to get there.
Skywards members can easily
check the number of Miles they’ve earned and redeemed with the
statement details, in addition to the number of tier Miles needed to
achieve or maintain their Silver or Gold Status.
Skywards members can list
their preferences online and enjoy a personalised service the next
time they fly - whether an aisle or window seat, a special meal
requirement or a favourite drink, it’s all taken care of wherever
possible. They can also change their preferences at any time. When
they list their leisure pursuits, the website will let them know
relevant offers and events, whether special golfing holiday packages
or the latest new treatments at partner spa resorts.
A new reminder function on
special offers as they are displayed on the site, allows members to
“bookmark” them as a reminder for a later date. Another function
allows the member to e-mail the offer to a friend. The travel planner
helps members check flight schedules and book online, and with the My
Itinerary option, a member can e-mail their flight details to family,
friends and business associates to keep them informed of their travel
plans.
Skywards members can
exchange their Miles for free flights on Emirates, SriLankan and
partner airlines, flight upgrades, cruises on the Arabian Gulf with
Danat Dubai Cruises, tours and safaris with Arabian Adventures or
stays at Dubai’s luxurious Al Maha Desert Resort.
