Singapore Visitor Arrivals in February 2002
Visitor arrivals in February 2002 grew by 0.8% over the same month in 2001, to a total of 597,415 visitors.
The shift in the Chinese New Year holiday period from January to February resulted in the marginal increase in February's arrival figures. The main contributions were from Asia, which generated 4.9% increase in arrivals to Singapore.

Indonesian arrivals dropped 4.4% over the same month in 2001, with business-related and holiday traffic down by 14.8% and 3.5% respectively.
The weeklong Chinese New Year holidays in February this year boosted China's outbound market. Holiday traffic rose by 158.5%.
The shift in the Chinese New Year holidays also boosted visitor arrivals from Hong Kong, Malaysia and Taiwan. Holiday arrivals from Hong Kong and Malaysia rose by 156.0% and 30.6% respectively while holiday arrivals from Taiwan rose by 15.4%.
USA continued another month of double-digit decline in arrivals to Singapore (-11.2%). Much of this was attributed to cautious consumer sentiments and the market's resistance to international travel.
The decline in visitor arrivals from India was largely due to the weak performance of the business-related segment (-18.3%).
Holiday arrivals from the top 12 markets grew by 11.8%. The shift in the Chinese New Year holiday encouraged outbound holiday travel from markets such as China (158.5%), Hong Kong (+156.0%), Malaysia (+30.6%), Taiwan (+15.4%), Thailand (+13.5%), India (+3.5%) and UK (+2.2%).
Overall, business-related1 traffic from the top 12 markets fell by 22.5%. With the exception of China (+2.6%), all major markets registered declines in this segment. Business-related travel from Taiwan (-36.9%), Hong Kong (-35.1%), Malaysia (-33.3%) and Japan (-29.5%) and Thailand (-21.4%) posted significant decreases.
Business-related segment includes Business, Business & Pleasure and MICE arrivals.
