Accor rebrands Royal Lagoon Hotel Dongguan a Sofitel

Travel News Asia 10 November 2004

Accor has introduced its prestigious Sofitel brand to China's vibrant Guangdong province with the rebranding of the Royal Lagoon Hotel Dongguan to Sofitel Royal Lagoon Dongguan.

The hotel offers guests a unique urban resort environment right in the commercial heart of bustling Guangdong province, catering to the needs of business travelers while featuring some of the best leisure and recreational facilities in the region. It is surrounded by perfectly manicured gardens of picturesque Hu Ying Park and is adjacent to the 36-hole Hill View Golf Club.

All of the 268 rooms and suites at Sofitel Royal Lagoon Dongguan have private balconies with panoramic views of the nearby park and lake. It stands out as the only five-star hotel in Southern China to feature a 30,000sqm outdoor water park, in addition to an expansive 2,600sqm pool, one of the largest in Guangdong province, and an indoor pool ideal for all seasons.

Other recreational facilities include a spa; two fitness centres, two outdoor floodlit tennis courts, and squash court. There are also mahjong rooms, snooker and billiards, children's playground, jogging track and bike trail.

The hotel's 22 meeting rooms and 950sqm Royal Ballroom also makes Sofitel Royal Lagoon Dongguan one of the region's leading venues for conventions, meetings and incentive trips. The adjacent Royal Convention Centre accommodates up to 600 delegates and is supported by a multi-language simultaneous translation and computerised lighting system.

For sumptuous dining experiences, guests can choose from a diverse selection of six restaurants and bars including classic Chinese cuisine at the Fragrant Pavilion, BB's Brazilian Barbeque at Churrascaria, buffets at Café Royal, international fare at Garden Bistro or cocktails at Mardi Gras Jazz Bar.

Accor Senior Vice President - Asia, Reggie Shiu, said the hotel was an important addition to the group's growing Sofitel network in China.

"Overseas and Hong Kong business travellers form the main market for Sofitel Royal Lagoon Dongguan due to its close proximity to the two special economic zones in Shenzhen and Hong Kong.

"By planting the Sofitel flag on this hotel Accor should enjoy increased brand awareness around China as business travellers from these two regions frequently travel around the country."

The hotel is Accor's ninth Sofitel in China after the openings of Sofitel Boao, Sofitel Westlake Hangzhou and Sofitel Wanda Chengdu during 2003. This latest addition will give Accor a current commitment of 33 hotels under management around China by the beginning of 2005 under its Sofitel, Novotel and Ibis brands.

To celebrate the rebranding Sofitel Royal Lagoon Dongguan is offering a special rate of RMB 740 (US$89), single occupancy including breakfast from now until 31 December 2004.
