Singapore to target the 'Business Shopper'

Travel News Asia 6 February 2003

Singapore aims to tap into a new and potentially highly lucrative market, the 'Business Shopper'.

During a press conference at the recent ATF in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, Mr Lim Neo Chian, Singapore Tourism Board's Deputy Chairman and Chief Executive Officer said that there was a large untapped market of travellers who due to their busy work schedules had no time to spend money, or benefit from all the great deals that shopping in Singapore has to offer.

We are of course talking of the business traveller. The person who is generally so busy that any shopping that needs to be done takes place in Duty Free at the airport or even on the plane.

Mr Lim admitted that the symantecs had not yet been worked out, but that it was something STB was looking into. Something along the lines of a Shopping Concierge where the business traveller can shop for what s/he needs without leaving the hotel and as easily as calling room service.

Such innovative new ideas are all part of the new look STB's strategy of moving forward.

Mr Lim, added that the STB will focus its attention on creating exciting experiences for visitors in order to bring more of them to Singapore and generate more tourism receipts.
