At the 10th ACI Asia-Pacific Regional Assembly
on Wednesday, ACI Asia-Pacific called for members’ support to
further promote excellence in airport operations and management.
The following resolutions were adopted by
Asia-Pacific airports:
• Support Airport Excellence (APEX) in Safety
Programme; • Support Airport Carbon Accreditation Programme;
and • Recognize the need to promote ICAO’s Next Generation of
Airport Professionals (NGAP) initiative.
Mr. Dennis Chant, President of ACI Asia-Pacific
said, “Member’s support is paramount to the success of ACI and
ICAO programmes. The ACI Asia-Pacific Regional Office, with the
full support from the Regional Board, will continue to work
closely with ACI World and ICAO in further promoting excellence in
airport operations and managements through these programmes.”
Support APEX in Safety Programme
ACI, pursuing its mission of promoting safer
airport operations while encouraging international cooperation
amongst ICAO, aviation stakeholders and airports worldwide, has
developed the APEX in Safety Programme. Since the launch in 2012,
about 2% or 10 airports in Asia-Pacific have participated.
ACI Asia-Pacific urged airports in the region to
participate as hosts of Safety Reviews or support the programme by
sending aerodrome safety experts to participate as Safety
Assessors.
Support Airport Carbon Accreditation Programme
2015 marks the 4th anniversary of the
introduction of Airport Carbon Accreditation in Asia-Pacific, a
global programme designed specifically to help Airports reduce
carbon emissions in response to climate change.
So far, 24
airports were accredited representing about 26% of Asia-Pacific
traffic and together, they have achieved 2,000 tonnes of carbon
reduction between May 2013 and May 2014.
ACI Asia-Pacific urged airports to continue
their efforts in minimizing impact on environment and participate
in Airport Carbon Accreditation to reach the ultimate goal of
carbon neutrality. The association also urged governments to
consider including Airport Carbon Accreditation in their State
Action Plan on emission reduction as a support of voluntary
actions by airports operators.
Next Generation of Airport Professionals (NGAP)
Recognizing that the international aviation
community will anticipate a shortage of skilled aviation
professionals in the near future, ICAO launched the NGAP
initiative to ensure that enough qualified and competent aviation
professionals are available to operate, manage and maintain the
future international air transport system.
ACI Asia-Pacific urged airports to recognize the
strategic role of Human Resources and support ACI in developing
airport professionals and future industry leadership for
sustainable airport business through programmes such as the
ICAO-ACI Airport Management Professional Accreditation Programme
(AMPAP) IAP designation.
The association further urged the
airports to strive to make the airport industry an employer of
choice for the next generation of airport professionals and have
airport HR professionals to actively take part in Regional HR
Network and Committee to promote HR Excellence.
