According to the July 2014 STR Global
Construction Pipeline Report, the Asia Pacific region reported
2,340 hotels Under Contract comprising 524,067 rooms.
The Under Contract data includes projects in the
In Construction, Final Planning and Planning stages but does not
include projects in the Unconfirmed stage.
Among the countries in the region, China
reported the most rooms under construction with 148,578 rooms. Six
other countries reported more than 5,000 rooms under construction:
India (30,117 rooms); Indonesia (26,414 rooms); Malaysia (10,511
rooms); Philippines (8,056 rooms); Thailand (6,411 rooms); and
Japan (5,702 rooms).
Central/South America
The Central/South America hotel development
pipeline comprises 384 hotels totalling 62,958 rooms.
Among the Chain Scale segments, three each
accounted for more than 20% of rooms Under Contract: the Upscale
segment (23.3% with 14,696 rooms); the Midscale segment (22.3%
with 14,022 rooms); and the Upper Midscale segment (22.2% with
13,970 rooms).
The Upscale segment made up the largest percent
of rooms under construction (29.8%) with 7,289 rooms. Two other
segments each accounted for more than 15% of rooms under
construction: the Midscale segment (19.8% with 4,841 rooms) and
the Upper Midscale segment (19.7%with 4,820 rooms).
