Marco Polo Hotels in Hong Kong Amalgamate Operational Services

The three Marco Polo hotels in Hong Kong - the Marco Polo Hongkong Hotel, Gateway Hotel and Prince Hotel - have amalgamated their operational services to create best practice synergies for this landmark 1,458-room operation.

The management teams undertook a productivity review over 4 months to identify work process improvements and streamlining work flows. The key priorities were to enhance the guest experience and encourage workforce multiskilling and employee empowerment to create new best practices at all levels of the operation. At the same time, the review has reduced unnecessary processes and management layers, which will contribute to a more synergistic and efficient operation across the harbour front hotels.

While the Sales and Marketing departments of the three hotels were already consolidated a few years ago, the current amalgamation resulted in 31 redundancies but also established newly created positions for the workforce of almost 1,000 staff.

Departmental Managers will oversee the day to day operations of each hotel, supported by one General Manager for all 1,458 rooms.

Each of the hotels will maintain their own individual product offerings through their room and dining experiences.

Eric Waldburger, President of Marco Polo Hotels, said, “This is a responsible business model that will help build a new more efficient organisation. We are committed to staff development and growth for the long term. We believe that this new structure will help grow and develop our very dedicated and passionate workforce of whom we are very proud.”
