Former Hong Kong Rugby Football Union (HKRFU)
National Player Development Manager Kane Jury has been appointed
as the Mens Sevens coach at the
Hong Kong Sports Institute (HKSI)
Elite Rugby Sevens programme.
In his four-year tenure at the HKRFU, Jury has
also served as the coach of the Hong Kong National Womens Sevens
Team and as a support staff to the Mens Sevens squad.
Jury completes a highly experienced trio of
coaches at the HKSI joining the previously announced coaching team
of former Wales Sevens coach Gareth Baber and renowned womens
rugby international Anna Richards.
Baber will serve as the overall programme head
coach working with Richards and Jury to improve performance in
both the womens and mens sevens athletes respectively. Baber
will also serve as the HKRFU Senior Mens Sevens squad coach.
Kane has been an integral part of the HKRFU
Performance Department for the last four years, said
Dai Rees,
HKRFU Head of Technical Development and Performance. He will
bring an enormous amount of local systems and player knowledge to
his new role with the HKSI that will help compliment the
appointment of both Gareth and Anna from their positions
overseas.
For his part, Jury is relishing the opportunity
ahead. Ive been in Hong Kong for eight years now and have been
working with the HKRFU High Performance department for the last
four years where I have learned a lot. That opportunity has opened
up new challenges for me like joining the Sports Institute and I
am really excited to be faced with this opportunity, said Kane
Jury. I am keen to work alongside Gareth and Anna on a personal
level and I know that I can learn a lot from them. I think that I
can also help them fulfill their objectives as I have a unique
understanding of the mens and womens sevens players and can help
impart that to the coaching team ... Its hugely exciting to be a
part of what is potentially an Olympic process now.
Jurys tenure at the HKSI began on 6 January
2014.
