On 20 July 2014, motorbike riders from around
the globe will gather once again in Key West, Florida for the
start of the 5th annual Hoka Hey Motorcycle Challenge.
Aptly named
after a rallying call of the Sioux Indians, the journey is
designed to expand each rider's spirit by testing his or her
physical, mental and emotional boundaries.
The 2014 Hoka Hey
Motorcycle Challenge is open to all American manufacturers
(Harley-Davidson, Victory and Indian) of V-Twin motorbikes.
This
year's route will encompass a 7,600 mile course that ends in
Homer, Alaska with an End of the Road bash on 2 August 2014.
Between Key West and Homer, participants will be
required to stop at three checkpoints along the way: Wind
River Harley-Davidson in Lawton, OK; Big Sky
Harley-Davidson in Great Falls, MT; Harley-Davidson of Prince
George in Prince George, BC. At approximately 2,000 miles apart,
the checkpoints are a welcome pit stop along this grueling route.
The theme of this year's ride, was chosen
because the first-ever Hoka Hey Motorcycle Challenge took place in
2010 when hundreds of participants traveled 8,500 miles along a
different route between Key West and Homer. Approximately
one-third of the participants crossed the finish line that year;
leaving the rest feeling like they had unfinished business!
The guidelines have changed somewhat since that
inaugural event but the philosophy remains the same and riders can
expect to be constantly challenged as they head off on an unknown
course with fresh directions provided at each checkpoint, traverse
back roads and byroads and spend nights outside next to their
bikes - in whatever weather Mother Nature provides.
Challenge,
Endurance
