Centara Hotels & Resorts of Thailand will in December open its second property in Mauritius, Centara Grand Azuri Resort & Spa Mauritius, a five-star resort located directly on the beach at the new Azuri oceanfront complex on the northeast coast of the island.

Along with the hotel property, Centara will be managing luxury residences in the same complex, under the company’s Centara Grand Residence & Suites brand.

“We are very proud to be announcing this next step in our international expansion,” said Thirayuth Chirathivat, chief executive officer of Centara Hotels & Resorts. “Our first resort property in Mauritius, Centara Poste Lafayette Resort & Spa Mauritius, opened in December 2012 and is already proving to be a great success within the industry, and with our guests. Opening our premier five-star brand on the island gives us a very strong presence, and we feel there is enormous potential in the Mauritian tourism sector.”

Centara Grand Azuri Resort & Spa Mauritius is part of the Azuri oceanfront complex, a 400-acre development that is home to luxury residences, a private school, retail outlets and sports and marine services.

The resort enjoys a beachfront setting, with a lagoon suitable for swimming and water sports.

“The Azuri complex is very much a high-end destination, and our new resort is a centerpiece of this exciting new development,” said Chris Bailey, senior vice president for sales and marketing at Centara Hotels & Resorts. “By offering a five-star premium-brand resort and a four-star core brand resort in Mauritius, we will be in a very strong marketing position, and it further enhances our presence in the Indian Ocean region, which we have targeted as part of our expansion strategy. We believe that Azuri will very quickly become a destination in its own right, as it delivers the total vacation experience for couples and families alike.”

Accommodation at Centara Grand Azuri Resort & Spa Mauritius is a combination of rooms, suites and thatched villas, all facing the ocean, and featuring a large and comfortable living space with a furnished balcony or terrace.

Family friendly facilities include a large number of the rooms and villas being equipped with two double beds, comfortably sleeping a family of four, and there is a supervised kids’ club that has two separate zones, with a Pirates’ Cove for the youngsters and an E-Zone for the teens.

Leisure facilities include two swimming pools, while non-motorised water sports are offered free of charge and include windsurfing, snorkelling, kayaking, sailing and use of pedal boats, catamarans and glass-bottom boats.

Spa Cenvaree offers a full spa menu with therapeutic treatments including Ayurvedic applications and holistic experiences, and there is also a fully equipped fitness centre.

Le Comptoir is the all-day restaurant and will serve colourful buffets, a menu of internationally inspired dishes along with the best of local Mauritius cuisine and an eclectic selection of Asian fare, and will have an open kitchen with live cooking stations. Lazuli will be an evening venue serving Mediterranean inspired cuisine, and Black Pepper will feature barbecues, themed dinners, and light meals served al-fresco in a convivial ambience.
