All Blacks great Justin Marshall has confirmed
he will play for the star-studded BGC APBs at this month's GFI
HKFC Tens.
The 81-cap scrumhalf will be joined by two of his
compatriots – New Zealand sevens legend Orene Ai’i and former
Crusaders and Blues flyhalf Stephen Brett.
Latest additions to the APBs squad also include
four other Rugby World Cup stars – ex-Japan captain Takuro Miuchi
and Tongan trio Epi Taione, Hale T-Pole and Nili Latu.
The
team will also have the services of giant Fijian winger Nemani
Nadolo, who set a Japan Rugby Top League record in December when
scoring six tries in a game.
The APBs have already
announced that All Blacks legend and 2011 RWC winner Mils Muliaina
will appear for them in the Tens together with his former
international teammate Anthony Tuitavake and Fijian flyer Vilimoni
Delasau, a RWC Sevens winner in 2005.
The Hong Kong-bound
squad will be coached by another New Zealand great, former test
captain Tana Umaga, and he will be assisted by ex-All Blacks
forward Filo Tiatia.
Marshall, who also captained the All
Blacks four times in a stellar international career spanning a
decade, played for the APBs in their first appearance at the Tens
last year when they reached the Cup final.
“We are
delighted that Justin Marshall is returning to the APBs for
another tilt at the Tens title,” said Len Harvey, Executive Managing Director and General Manager, Asia Pacific, BGC Partners. “With his skills, leadership and vast experience of rugby at
the highest level, he is a valuable addition to the squad and a
great ambassador for BGC and the APBs brand. To have two
All Blacks greats in Justin and Mils in our Tens line-up speaks
volumes for the appeal of the APBs and is a great boost for the
tournament. We are also extremely pleased with the way the
squad is shaping up. It is packed with World Cup experience and
try-scoring potential and we are well on the way to achieving our
aim of making the APBs the most exciting and, hopefully, popular
team at the Tens.”
Marshall believes that the squad being
put together by BGC Partners and the APBs management will be
highly attractive to fans and well capable of contending for the
Cup.
“I had a fantastic time at last year’s Tens so I’m
really looking forward to meeting up with my APBs teammates again
and having another go at the title,” he said. “We came very
close to winning the Cup at our first attempt last year and this
time around everyone is 100 per cent determined to go one better.
Hopefully, we can entertain the crowd, score a few tries and,
ultimately, lift the Cup.”
