Oman’s first fully automatic car parking system has opened at the 334-room City Seasons Hotel Muscat.

The new facility, which can accommodate up to 306 cars, has been designed to provide a solution to parking issues in the city.

Simple to use, drivers take their car to an entry station and leave it to be picked up by the computerised elevators which manoeuvre it to a parking spot inside the building, an operation that takes less than two minutes.

“The benefits of automatic parking are numerous,” said Manu Madan, general manager City Seasons Hotel Muscat “First of all it eliminates the hassle of finding a parking spot so saving drivers time. And it provides a secure environment for our guests to leave their vehicles without fear of vandalism or paintwork scrapes.”

The automatic car park also requires a smaller footprint than conventional car parks which is crucial in a city that doesn’t have a lot of available space. It measures 60 metres by 6.55 metres and has nine elevators.

“Muscat is a growing city which puts pressure on community facilities such as parking and, as our hotel is located in a busy city area, projects such as this that make intelligent use of land space are the way forward to help alleviate such issues,” Madan added. “Parking and retrieval is easy, it’s all done with just the push of a button.”

The automatic parking system serves the hotel, its shopping centre and office tower.
