In a bid to help passengers beat jet lag,
Finnair is to become the first airline in the world to pioneer a unique
pilot project that will involve introducing bright light headsets
on board its flights.
This pilot program will test the benefits of
Finnish-designed device, Valkee, for passengers on particularly
long flights, where the need to adjust to a new time zone often
causes natural challenges.
The Valkee bright light headset simulates the
effects of daylight by channelling bright light through the ear
canal to very close proximity of the tissue in need of treatment,
the brain.
“Finnair is an innovative airline and we actively
look for new ways to improve the wellbeing and comfort of our
passengers. Introducing the Valkee bright light headsets is one of
the many ways Finnair is adding interesting experiences onboard
our flights”, said Jarkko Konttinen, Vice President, Global Brand
& Marketing Communications, Finnair.
The pilot service will be
offered to passengers in Business Class on the route between
Helsinki and Shanghai between end March to end April 2012. The
device will be on sale on board flights in May 2012.
