Beginning 25 March 2012, Korean Air will offer
more convenient connecting flights between Incheon International
Airport in Seoul and Jeju Island, a favorite vacation spot located
off the southern tip of the Korean Peninsula.
Jeju Island recently was named one the “New
7Wonders of Nature”, along with the Amazon, Halong Bay, Iguazu
Falls, Komodo, Puerto Princesa Underground River and Table
Mountain. The volcanic island is Korea’s largest island, smallest
province and home to its tallest mountain, Halla-san, a
dramatic-looking dormant volcano that rises over a mile above sea
level.
The people of Jeju have developed a culture and language
distinct from those of mainland Korea, and the island is famous
for its matriarchal family structure symbolized by the “sea women”
who make a living from deep-sea diving to harvest marine products.
Korean Air’s new service will be operated by Boeing 737-800
aircraft with 149 seats. The flight will depart Incheon
International Airport daily at 19:05 and arrive just over an hour
later in Jeju Island at 20:10. The return flight departs daily
from Jeju Island at 17:00 returns to Seoul Incheon International
Airport at 18:05.
With the launch of this new
route, Korean Air can conveniently connect passengers from its
extensive global network to Jeju Island via Incheon International
Airport. With easier access, it is expected
that Jeju Island will become a more attractive holiday and
vacation destination to international travelers and travel
planners.
