The AirAsia X D708 Charity Flight with Sir
Richard Branson, which was scheduled to depart London Stansted for
Kuala Lumpur on 1 May 2011, has been rescheduled to 4 July 2011.
The airline said the change was made to help
address the growing difficulty of obtaining accommodation in and
flights into London brought about by the increase in the number of
people visiting London over the long bank holiday weekend and
Royal Wedding.
The flight has now been rescheduled to depart
London for Kuala Lumpur on 4 July 2011.
AirAsia said that travellers who have purchased
tickets for the charity flight will be given a full refund, or the
option to transfer the booking to the new date.
The
flight has attracted a lot of media attention around the
world, and even featured
publicity stunts such as an auction with bids starting at GBP
400,000 for the right to
shave Sir Richard Branson's legs. Other companies have also
joined the hype, with
Expedia offering the chance to Win Tickets for the flight. On
Thursday however, the airline cut the fares on the flight quite
dramatically from GBP 4,500 to GBP 2,250 return, a possible indication that it may have been
far too
overpriced to begin with. AirAsia is a low cost airline afterall.
