Emirates has signed a new five-year commitment
to the title sponsorship of the Emirates Singapore Derby.
The deal
between Emirates and the Singapore Turf Club (STC) will extend the
long-established partnership through to 2015 and the running of
the 20th Emirates Singapore Derby.
The 2,000m Emirates Singapore
Derby, with an attractive overall prize money of Sin$1.15 million,
will be run at the Singapore Racecourse at Kranji on Sunday, 17
July 2011.
President and Chief Executive of Singapore Turf
Club, Mr Yu Pang Fey, said, “It has been an eventful
15-year partnership and we are thrilled to have Emirates on board
once again to sponsor the Singapore Derby. Being associated with
one of the world’s top airlines, the Emirates Singapore Derby
has now been elevated to a must-go event in both the racing and
social circuits. We look forward to fostering an even stronger
collaboration in the next five years."
The eagerly anticipated Emirates
Singapore Derby may be known for its exciting on track action
but for many, it is seen as the epitome of racing fashion in
Singapore. As with the previous Emirates Singapore Derby days,
guests are anticipated to come dressed in their best racing
outfits and compete for the hotly-anticipated “Best Dressed to
the Races” contest. This year’s winner will receive a pair of
return business class tickets to Dubai with Emirates and a
three-night stay at the Arabian Suite Room in Madinat Jumeirah,
Dar Al Masyaf - Arabian Summerhouse in Dubai, courtesy of
Jumeirah Hotels and Resort.
In addition, as part of the
Emirates Singapore Derby, Emirates aims to raise at least
Sin$100,000 for five voluntary welfare organisations under the
umbrella of the Community Chest of Singapore this year.
Fundraising activities include the pre-sale of donation tables
and outright donations.
“Emirates has long been an enthusiast of
established equestrian sporting events through our different
sponsorships around the world. Indeed, we are very excited for the
coming years of the Emirates Singapore Derby and look forward to
mark our two-decade partnership with the STC in 2015,” said Mr
Nick Rees, Emirates Manager, Singapore and Brunei. “The airline is
further increasing its commitment to Singapore with the addition of a fourth daily flight from Dubai from 30 October 2011.
The incremental 2,548 seats weekly on offer from Singapore will
be the largest single expansion since operations began here in
June 1990.”
