DHL Express has appointed Jerry Hsu as its new
CEO of Asia Pacific.
In addition, Mr Hsu will join the DHL Express
Global Management Board. The Asia Pacific region is the company’s
fastest growing, increasing revenues by over a third in 2010
compared to 2009.
As former President of
DHL Express Greater China, Mr Hsu was instrumental in developing
DHL Express’ market leadership position in the Area’s key markets
of Hong Kong and Taiwan, as well as China, the company’s
fastest-growing markets. Under Mr Hsu’s leadership, more than
US$1.3 billion has been invested in the Greater China Area.
A veteran business leader with an impeccable track
record, Mr Hsu joined DHL Express 10 years ago from
DaimlerChrysler Corporation. At DaimlerChrysler, he held various
senior positions during a 20-year tenure including Vice Chairman
of Beijing Jeep Corporation and General Manager of Japan, Taiwan
and China subsidiaries where he was instrumental in expanding and
shaping the automotive industry in Asia, particularly in Japan and
China.
At DHL Express, Mr Hsu was Area Director responsible for
Newly Industrialized Economies (NIE), which included Hong Kong,
Singapore, South Korea and Taiwan. In September 2002, he was
appointed Regional Director responsible for Greater China, Korea
Peninsula and Mongolia before being named President for the
Greater China Area.
In his new role as CEO Asia
Pacific, Mr Hsu will focus on creating the most efficient model
for this emerging market, drive growth, increase margins and
extend DHL Express’ market-leading positioning.
Based in Hong
Kong, he will be responsible for a region that includes China,
Japan, Korea, Hong Kong, Taiwan, South East Asia, India and South
Asia, and Oceania, and direct the ongoing expansion of
capabilities and infrastructure.
In May, DHL
Express introduced an additional next-day intercontinental flight
between Asia Pacific and the U.S. and another one from the U.S. to
the Middle East to help meet growing demand for services on these
lanes. Mr Hsu will also oversee the launch of the new North Asia
Hub in Shanghai to be opened in early 2012.
