According to data compiled by STR Global, hotels
in the Asia Pacific region experienced increases when reported in
U.S. dollars for all three key performance metrics for November
2009.
In year-over-year measurements, the Asia Pacific
region’s occupancy grew by 2.2% to 68%, the average
daily rate increased by 1.2% to US$129.46 and revenue per
available room jumped 3.4% to US$88.05.
“November results showed that occupancy growth
was back across Asia Pacific. All sub regions reported
improvements boosting the region’s year-over-year occupancy
growth,” said Elizabeth Randall, managing director of STR Global.
“Australia and Oceania achieved the highest occupancy of 76.5%. Looking at the first eleven months of this year,
Australia and Oceania reported the lowest RevPAR declines (-15.2%) to US$90.07, which is partly due to exchange-rate
fluctuations against the U.S. dollar. Central and South Asia
reported the biggest year-to-date RevPAR declines (-36.3%)
mainly due to India’s weakened performance.”
