Passenger traffic at Denver International
Airport for March 2010 continued the positive growth that started
at the beginning of the year with the busiest January in the
airport’s history.
In March 2010, 4,449,987 passengers traveled
through the airport, an increase of 3.4% over the same month last
year. The first three months of strong growth brought the
year-to-date passenger traffic to 11,927,365, an increase of
432,332 passengers, or 3.8%, over the same 90-day period in 2009.
“We are extremely pleased with the strong
numbers we’ve seen for the last three months,” said Kim Day,
Manager of Aviation for Denver International Airport. “We saw a
lot of spring breakers this year due to some phenomenal airfares
and other travel deals around the world. However, we also saw a
good increase in the number of business travelers getting back on
the road, so to speak. We are hopeful that this is a sign that the
economy is moving in the right direction and we hope to have a
very busy summer here at DIA.”
March also saw a modest increase in flight
operations, which rose 2% from 52,467 last year to 53,521 in 2010.
Cargo saw a much stronger increase of 21.1%with 46,577,822 tons of
total cargo handled in March compared to 38,462,258 tons during
the same month last year.
