Singapore Airlines has appointed Dr William Fung
Kwok Lun to its Board as an independent director with effect from
today, 1 December 2009.
Dr Fung, 60, is Group Managing Director of Li &
Fung Limited, a multinational group of companies headquartered in
Hong Kong. He has received numerous awards and accolades for his
business contributions including the Silver Bauhinia Star by the
Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region in 2008.
With extensive knowledge of the Asia Pacific region and in
particular the fast-growing Chinese market, Singapore Airlines’
Board should benefit from Dr Fung’s vast experience and business
connections. In addition to his appointment as an independent,
non-executive director, he will be a member of the Board Audit
Committee.
Dr Fung is a non-executive director of HSBC Holdings
and Deputy Chairman of The Hongkong and Shanghai Banking
Corporation. He is also an independent non-executive director of
Shui On Land and VTech Holdings, among other directorships. He is
a Council Member of the Chinese University of Hong Kong.
Dr
Fung has also held key positions in major trade and business
associations. He is a past Chairman of the Hong Kong General
Chamber of Commerce, Hong Kong Exporters’ Association and Hong
Kong Committee for the Pacific Economic Cooperation Council.
Dr Fung holds an MBA
from Harvard Graduate School of Business and a Bachelor of Science
in Engineering from Princeton University. He was also conferred
the Honorary Degree of Doctor of Business Administration by Hong
Kong University of Science & Technology and by Hong Kong
Polytechnic University.
Following Dr Fung’s appointment, the
Board Audit Committee will comprise the following members:
