Contiki Holidays, the worldwide leader in
vacations for 18-35 year-olds, has doubled its tour bookings from Singapore to
Europe and America combined compared to the same period a year ago.
At the end of June 2008, Contiki tour bookings out of Singapore to popular
backpacking destinations in Europe have matched that of the total number of tour
bookings in 2007 and this is expected to grow by an additional 75% by the end of
2008. Tour bookings to North America have also increased by at least 20%.
“Despite the fuel price increase early this year, we have noticed a marked
increase in the number of tour bookings, especially to places like Europe and the
United States,” said Nicholas Lim, Regional Director (Asia) for Contiki Holidays.
“It’s a clear indication that although people are trying to keep travel costs down,
smart travellers are taking advantage of the weakened US dollar and indulging
themselves in a well-deserved break.”
Contiki tours appeal to travellers because
they offer the flexibility of choice in terms of preferred itinerary, while still able to
inject fun elements into conventional tours. In additional, the tours also provide a
platform for like-minded travellers from around the globe to interact.
Travellers also appreciate the fact that transport, accommodation, sightseeing
and most meals are included with Contiki packages, hence making budgeting for
the trip a breeze with no hidden costs. Leveraging on savings from earlypayment, mix “n” match and group discounts,
they are able to enjoy a great holiday without burning a hole in their pockets.
“When I’m backpacking, especially
in countries like Europe, arranging for transport and accommodation can be cumbersome as there are
numerous restrictions you have to be mindful of,” said Grace Ong, an associate, who
travelled on a Contiki tour in Summer, 2006. “With Contiki, I travel securely and
comfortably without having to compromise on the flexibility in designing my
holiday or blowing my budget.”
