Mövenpick Hotel Saigon Makes Merry for the Holidays

Travel News Asia Latest Travel News Podcasts Wednesday, 19 November 2008

Christmas and the New Year will be celebrated with festive feasts at the Mövenpick Hotel Saigon, which has arranged an appetising array of holiday events throughout December.

The fun begins on the 1st, when the hotel starts selling traditional Christmas treats — from Christmas stollen and chocolate Santa houses to gingerbread cookies and chocolate pralines — in the lobby and at OJ’s café.

On Christmas Eve, the merriment shifts into overdrive, with an elaborate dinner buffet at Café Saigon. Highlights include a choir performance, a visit from jolly St. Nick and seasonal indulgences from the East and the West.

Among the culinary creations sure to make mouths water: sumptuous salads; palate-pleasing pates; imported steaks; and Christmas turkey, served with tangy orange sauce and braised red cabbage and chestnuts.

Guests are only advised to save room for a delectable dessert or two, such as homemade Panetone filled with ice cream. The event begins at 6 p.m., ends at 11 p.m., and costs US$65++ per person.

“Just as the hotel trades on a ‘Swissness’ that is at the core of Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts, so too do the events we have in store during Christmas,” said Hubert Klemenz, the hotel’s general manager. “If our guests have any affinity for the way the holiday is celebrated in Switzerland, then they will love spending it here, too.”

On New Year’s Eve, the celebration resumes, with another buffet of fairytale proportions. The memorable menu includes French classic “salmon bellevue,” a large shrimp tower and fresh oysters from the ice bar.

At midnight, guests will have the opportunity to share in a sparkling wine toast, compliments of Café Saigon. Make a booking of four or more prior to 20 December, and the deal is even sweeter: a free bottle of champagne.

The cork-popping party begins at 6 p.m., lasts until midnight and is priced at US$ 75++ per person.

The Mövenpick Hotel Saigon is also offering groups of 70 or more access to its ballrooms, complete with spirited decorations, a special Christmas dinner menu, and holiday music. Prices for a two-and-a-half hour banquet start at US$35++ per person and can be booked from 1 December 2008 to 5 January 2009.
