Airbus has completed
its A380 programme review and is now informing customers about changes to its delivery
schedule, with some delays confirmed and more likely t o follow.
Currently
four
Airbus A380 aircraft have been delivered to, and are in full operation
by, Singapore Airlines, the only airline currently operating the
super-jumbo.
Seventeen aircraft are in various stages of production, mainly in the wiring installation
and system testing phases.
Following
the review Airbus has conducted it is now planning to make 12 (instead of 13) deliveries in 2008 and
21 (instead of 25) in 2009.
Airbus
has also confirmed that details about
its new plan and the further ramp-up and delivery slots in 2010 and the following years will be discussed with customers in the coming weeks.
The
Airbus A380 is the most technologically advanced commercial aircraft in the skies,
and being so new there were always likely to be some delays. How
airlines will react to these latest problems, that affect their plans,
passengers and advertising schedules, only time will tell, but it is
more than likely that compensation of some kind will be looked for. More
to come.
