The
American Tourism Society (ATS), in keeping with the goals of its newly developed Strategic Plan, to expand its high quality tour operator base,
has confirmed California-based Travcoa as its newest member.
ATS is a New York-based
professional travel industry association dedicated to promoting, developing and expanding high-quality, reliable travel between North America
and the ATS destination areas: the Baltics, Central and Eastern Europe, the Mediterranean / Red Sea Region and Russia.
The ATS is led by Chairman Alex Harris, CTC, Chairman, General Tours and President & CEO, Michael
Stolowitzky.
Since 1954, Travcoa has paved the way to some of the more remote regions on Earth. They were often the first to bring guests to places where
others had not previously ventured, opening doors long closed to Western Travelers. Some of these journeys included
places like the Silk Route, Antarctica, Nepal, the Trobriand Islands, West Irian
Jaya, Sakhalin Island, the Falkland Islands and Oman. Adding Travcoa’s
custom journey destinations to the 68 countries included in their currently scheduled escorted journeys, Travcoa carries passengers to almost
every country in the world.
“Our decision to join ATS was based on the fact that Travcoa and ATS share a similar vision and history, pioneering new destinations and
opening up new worlds for the traveler,” said Louise Shumbris, Vice President of Product Operations and Development,
Travcoa. “We also feel very strongly about the economic value of tourism to these countries,
while at the same time, the responsibility to preserve the cultural heritage of the local peoples. We support ATS’s efforts and dedication to
education, both of the travel professionals in the US, as well as the local tourism professionals based in the ATS member countries and regions.
We at Travcoa look forward to sharing our expertise and experience with ATS members, as well as gaining insight into destinations that are not
yet fully developed.”
