Jetstar Asia to launch Daily Flights between Singapore and Macau

From 2 February 2008, Jetstar Asia is to launch flights between Singapore and the vibrant city of Macau.

Located 60km from Hong Kong and 145km from Guangzhou, Macau is one of the two special administrative regions of the People's Republic of China, the other being Hong Kong. With 442 years of Portuguese rule, Macau is the oldest European colony in East Asia. Macau has undergone remarkable changes in recent years. Testament of Macau's booming economy lies in its tourism numbers which have grown from 9.1 million visitors in 2000 to almost 22 million last year.

This year, the first phase of Macau's Cotai Strip opened with The Venetian Macau, a mega integrated shopping, entertainment and conventions complex. When completed, the Cotai Strip will see a total of 19,000 guest rooms in its seven resort hotels.

Macau is also famous for her Historic Centre inscribed by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site in 2005. This includes some twenty-five historic monuments and eight public squares, such as the Ruins of Saint Paul's Cathedral, A-Ma Temple and Mount Fortress.

Ms Chong Phit Lian, Jetstar Asia/Valuair's Chief Executive Officer said, "Jetstar Asia is committed to growing its Pan Asia Network with Changi Airport Terminal One's excellent facilities as our hub. As we move into 2008, there will be more exciting developments in this area, including our interests and readiness to operate to Kuala Lumpur and other Malaysian cities once the rights are available."

João Manuel Costa Antunes, Director of the Macau Government Tourist Office added, "The new Jetstar route will further attract visitors from Singapore to Macau, diversify Macau's source market portfolio and strengthen connectivity between Singapore and Macau. This will result in more regional business and tourism development. We extend our open hand of friendship to visitors from Singapore and we are confident that our guests will experience our warm hospitality."
