Yenn Wong, creator of the fashionable JIA Boutique Hotels
is to launch her first restaurant venture in her native city of Singapore.
As its name suggests, Graze brings a new concept in contemporary dining to Singapore, creating a relaxing, offbeat yet stylish environment.
Graze follows the successful launch of OPIA, the signature restaurant at
JIA Hong Kong which recently won the prestigious accolade “Restaurant
of the Year” in the inaugural South China Morning Post/Harpers Bazaar Style Awards and was runner up in the ‘Best New Restaurant’ category in
Wallpaper* magazine’s international Judges Awards 2006.
The chic venue, which opens in late March, is located in one of Singapore’s unique pre-war colonial-style black and white homes in Rochester Park,
close to the smart residential area of Holland Village.
It comprises a casual, cosy downstairs dining room, an elegant upstairs lounge bar Mint and an architecturally sleek 5,000 sq ft garden oasis
featuring inviting private outdoor pavilions and a sensational water feature that flows through the space.
Graze is designed by BURO Architects in association with Hecker Phelan and Guthrie Interiors (HPG). HP&G are responsible for award winning
projects such as The Prince Boutique Hotel, Longrain and Comme in Melbourne, and Establishment in Sydney and, together with Buro, the iconic
and awarded Botanical Hotel and Reserve Restaurant Melbourne. The group is also designing JIA Boutique Hotels’ new Shanghai property.
Graze will focus on
fresh home-made fare, featuring simple yet creative dishes. As well as an extensive a la carte menu, Graze will
have a barbecue selection of choice cuts and the freshest seafood with garden salads, a “grazing” menu for those who want to share, and at
weekends, a healthy and hearty breakfast/brunch menu.
From the a la carte menu, must-try signature dishes include King Prawns 3 ways with coconut sorbet – tempura, chilled and pan tossed; Roasted
barramundi with pumpkin and goats cheese ravioli, plum salad and chive oil and Soy lacquered Wagyu ox cheek, coconut rice and warm salad.
Set to become a destination for all day weekend brunch, treats include Graze’s big breakfast option - The cast iron pan, for meat lovers or
vegetarians, banana pancakes, crab omelette, eggs benedict and delights for those with a sweet-tooth.
Graze will also host a fresh produce store, selling home made sauces, chutneys, cheeses, sausages and dried goods, as well as imported
chocolates, pastas, jams, specialty coffee blends and boutique wines and beers – some exclusive to Graze.
The use of blonde woods in the downstairs dining area and a long communal table in the produce store give Graze a minimal contemporary style,
while the outdoor private pavilions, a unique water feature and subtle backlighting create a sophisticated chill-out ambience which is equally
appealing for lazy afternoons or Singapore’s balmy evenings.
The outdoor dining pavilions which are ideal for groups of six up to twelve offer an environment for casual dining or lounging, surrounded by an
urban garden oasis. A large outdoor screen can feature al fresco movies.
Mint is Graze’s upstairs lounge bar, fitted with a purpose built dj booth playing cool music, and adorned with comfortable leather sofas, flo stools
and ottomans, and a unique bisazza mosaic bar with a floral motif. A special feature of Mint is the cigar bar with an excellent selection of premium
and vintage cigars. A large adjoining terrace with comfortable banquette seating overlooks the garden.
A highlight of Mint is the range of signature must try sorbet cocktails, ideal thirst quenchers for Singapore’s hot climate.
Graze will open for dinner from Tuesday to Sunday and all day including breakfasts and lunches on Saturday and Sunday. Food orders until 10pm,
with Mint open until 1am, and later at weekends.
