Tourism Australia and Discovery Networks are partnering to bring
American Choppers’ Paul Teutul Sr. and his sons Paul Jr. and Mikey – the larger-than-life characters from Discovery’s global hit series
American Chopper - to Australia in February 2007 to experience the best Australia has to offer and to design a Down Under-themed chopper for a special three-part installment of the series
that will air on Discovery Networks in more than 300 million households worldwide in the second quarter of 2007.
The
Teutuls’ two-week visit to Australia is part of Tourism Australia’s “Global Programs,” an initiative that is part of a three-year
partnership between Tourism Australia and Discovery Networks. “Global Programs” is designed to showcase Australia’s unique lifestyle,
people and culture to the world while giving visitors and global travellers a glimpse of what the country has to offer.
“By producing these three episodes of
American Chopper Down Under, Discovery Networks is providing Tourism Australia with a
unique opportunity to showcase Australia in a creative and innovative way to a global audience,” said Tom Keaveny, executive vice
president and managing director, Discovery Networks Asia. “The Teutuls have such a powerful connection with Discovery viewers, and
this unique initiative will make it possible for American Chopper fans around the world to experience everything Australia has to offer
through the eyes of the Teutuls.”
“This is a major coup for Australia as this is only the second time the
American Chopper team has filmed outside the United States,” said Tim Fischer, chairman of Tourism Australia. “The visit to Australia by the stars of the series will help showcase our country’s unique
lifestyle and environment to millions of potential tourists worldwide and hopefully encourage their legion of fans from all over the world to
discover Australia for themselves.”
Paul Sr., Paul Jr. and the rest of the Orange County Choppers crew are no strangers to Australian audiences. Since the series first aired in
Australia in 2004, it has achieved cult status and a huge fan base. Headed by Paul Sr., the OCC team will be traveling across Australia and
making stopovers in various locations to seek inspiration for their latest bike. The cameras will be following the Teutuls during this
“working vacation,” and their experiences Down Under will be aired on Discovery Networks worldwide as three episodes of
American Chopper in the second quarter of 2007. The Teutuls will then return to the United States to design and produce the Australia-themed
bike, which will eventually be sold at a charity auction following a tour across the United States.
American Chopper fans and motorcycle enthusiasts can also look forward to meeting the Teutuls in person at a consumer event in Australia,
details of which are expected to be announced at a later date.
