On
Friday, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines and Schiphol Group officially opened Europe’s first departure hall offering
only self-service check-in facilities. Following a three-year, multimillion-euro renovation, Departure Hall 2 is now fully modernized and offers 66% more check-in capacity, ensuring
speedy check-in and time savings for passengers flying with KLM and its SkyTeam partners. The opening was conducted by Peter Hartman, deputy
president of KLM, and Ad Rutten, chief operating officer of Schiphol Group.
The renovated departure hall offers KLM passengers access to 60 self-service check-in devices and 56 baggage drop-off points.
“KLM is the first airline in Europe to offer full self-service check-in. Our customers want easy, efficient and swift ground handling procedures, and
this new departure hall fully meets that need,” said Peter Hartman at the opening. He added that efforts should also be made to ensure swifter and
more efficient passport control. “Waiting times at passport control are getting longer. Passenger traffic is expected to grow in the coming years,
and we must ensure that this does not become a bottleneck.”
Passengers are advised that they can save even more time by checking in online via www.klm.nl. They can do so up to 30 hours before departure
(24 hours for the USA).
