Michelin
has been chosen by Boeing as the second source for aftermarket nose and main tires for the all-new Boeing 787 Dreamliner
passenger airplane.
Michelin will offer a combination of traditional radial construction tires and new lightweight Near Zero Growth (NZG) construction tires. NZG construction offers increased
resistance to cuts and wear. The 787 will have 10 tires; two for the nose landing gear and eight for the main landing gear.
"With innovative tire technologies and proven performance on other Boeing programs, Michelin is a great addition to our partner team," said Boeing 787 Vice President
and General Manager Mike Bair.
"Like Michelin, Boeing is applying cutting-edge innovation to improve mobility," said Bob Carroll, international vice president of Marketing and Sales for Michelin Aircraft
Tires. "Our radial tire and NZG technology is a great fit for the new 787 Dreamliner and we're proud to be a part of such an important aviation advancement."
Michelin tires are delivered on Boeing 737NG and 747-400ER airplanes. Michelin offers approved tires for all current Boeing airplane models.
