Boeing Employee, Retiree Tsunami-Relief Donations Surpass $1 Million

Travel News Asia 26 January 2005

With just over a month left to receive matching contributions from the company, Boeing employee and retiree donations to tsunami-relief efforts have exceeded the one million-dollar mark, with more than $1.3 million donated to date.

Boeing is matching contributions made through its Employees Community Fund (ECF). The match is dollar-for-dollar for employees and 50 cents-on-the-dollar for eligible employees retired from the company. The match program continues through February 28.

Employees throughout the company responded soon after the scale and scope of the tragedy emerged, according to Toni Bailey, vice president, Boeing Community & Education Relations. “Our hearts go out to all who were touched by this tragic event,” she said. Bailey added that the company remains in close contact with the three organizations Boeing is supporting -- CARE, Mercy Corps and the American Red Cross.

In addition to matching individual employee gifts, Boeing has committed $1 million to aid relief efforts. Contributions will be focused on providing emergency relief throughout the region as well as long term rebuilding efforts.
